simpler living, compassionate life the focus of 7 generations adult class
The 7 Generations adult class delves into a new book, " Simpler Living, Compassionate Life: A Christian Perspective," edited by Michael Schut starting Oct. 1.
With 12 chapters and a discussion guide, a forward by Bill McKibben, and an endorsement by Jim Wallis of Sojourners, the book is an engrossing collection of pieces from writers like Terry Tempest Williams, Henri Nouwen, Richard Foster, Cecile Andrews and eighteen others encouraging you to listen to your own story, and to respond in a dialogue about the fundamental issues of life: time, money, food, sustainability, spirituality, and community.
The class will cover a chapter of the book every other week and rotate discussion facilitators. Class members will intersperse book study sessions with articles from periodicals, DVDs, field trips and speakers on living a simply, joyful, sustainable life. All are welcome to join the journey at any time; don't worry whether you have the book, just come. You can always catch up later if you decide to follow along or just listen and join in as you wish.
Please support a local independent bookstore. You can order the book through Full Circle Books, 842.2900, for $14.95. Full Circle is a local independent bookstore on the ground level of 50 Penn Place and is easily accessible from Northwest Expressway. Full Circle will have several of the books on hand by the first part of next week. You can call and reserve a copy OR if all the copies are reserved you can call and order a copy through them.

oct 21st & 22nd free showings of an inconvenient truth aim to mobilize a religious response to global warming
A sign of hope in troubled times, leaders from all faiths are joining forces to mobilize a religious response to global warming. In Oklahoma City, Mayflower is one of ten churches participating in Interfaith Power & Light’s “Spotlight on Global Warming,” an unprecedented inter-religious nationwide screening of educational films about global warming, featuring Paramount’s An Inconvenient Truth.
“Global warming is a threat to God’s creation and a threat to all people across the globe, particularly the poor. Our goal is to educate and engage church members and the public, and encourage them to take personal and collective action to reduce global warming emissions," says Robin Meyers, senior minister, Mayflower Congregational Church.
“Spotlight on Global Warming” screenings are taking place in large cities and small towns, across the country – from Dallas, Texas to Brunswick, Maine and right here in Oklahoma City.
“People of all religious and political beliefs share a common concern over the risk global warming poses to our planet,” said Sally Bingham, founder of Interfaith Power & Light, a nondenominational, nonpartisan ministry that helps congregations of all faiths to reduce global warming emissions.
“Everyone has a stake and a role in reducing global warming emissions. Working together we can change history. We invite you to join us, “ says Robin.
