Dear Mayflower Members

Please accept my invitation on behalf of the congregation, which is the governing body of the church, to join us for the 2007 Annual Meeting. We will gather at 6:30 pm, on Wednesday, November 7, and be fed once again by the remarkable 363 Group. Our business meeting will begin promptly at 7 pm.

We have very exciting news to report at this year's Annual Meeting, and this includes a major proposal submitted for the approval of the congregation by the Music Board to expand and renovate our pipe organ. Important information about this self-funded project is included with this letter. Please read it carefully before the Annual Meeting. ::: more

The meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. Please plan on enjoying dinner and fellowship before the meeting and supporting the 363 Group with a donation. ::: more

Christian Ed:
To Value or Not to Value

Someone once said, "The only thing necessary for the world to be a better place is that each child would grow up feeling valued." When Jesus states, "Do not prevent the children from coming to me for such is the kingdom of heaven," when Jesus says, "I have come to seek and to save that which is lost," when He heals the centurion soldier's servant, when He eats with tax collectors and 'sinners,' when He welcomes the interruption of a home-cooked meal by desperate friends to lower their beloved friend through the roof, Jesus demonstrates this most redeeming of traits and enduring of behaviors. He extends value to each of those people or situations. It is what we call walking the talk or living the life of faith. Now abide these three, faith ... ::: more

Plymouth Guild

Tresa Gouge of the Native American Legal Resource Center presented a lively and informative program on the ceremonial traditions and traditions of the Creek Indians at our October meeting. Tresa was raised a traditional American Indian and is involved with tribal ceremonies and dances. Tresa, dressed in the traditional Creek dress, brought the turtle shells used in their ceremonial dances, and has promised to come back to lead us all in a ceremonial dance. ::: more

Martha Circle
Diane Perkins may not have won the Nobel Peace Prize for her PowerPoint presentation, but her discussion at our October Circle meeting of how to make the world a 'greener' place was a great indication of her passion for our earth's ecology. The information she provided gave each of us an idea of how we can participate in saving our planet. Keeping with the 'natural' theme of the evening, her co-host, Margaret Howard, provided centerpieces for each of the tables that were composed of interesting natural materials, such as pinecones, large acorns, and branches from various greenery. ::: more

The Deacon's Report

The Board of Deacons has been working on numerous items this fall on your behalf. Following are a few of those items:

  • The Board has been working diligently on a new alcohol policy for the church as a result of an increase in requests for use of our facilities for events by outside groups and organizations. There will be a formal written explanation of this new policy in the coming weeks.
  • It has also been brought to the Board's attention that it may be nice to make some cosmetic changes to Milligan Hall since it is the primary place of social interaction among Mayflower members, and, moreover, new visitors to Mayflower, and, that, as such, it should reflect the impeccable attitude and spirit inherent to Mayflower Church. More information on this will be forthcoming as well.

Spaghetti Luncheon
The Christian Ed board will be hosting a Spaghetti luncheon after church on November 4th to raise funds for Christian Education at Mayflower. A silent art auction to benefit the Fletcher Vines fund, which helps members of the youth group with their endeavors, will also take place at that time. Everyone is invited to attend these two events.
