three steps to realize and take hold of the power you have as people of faith

Michael Schut, author of "Simpler Living, Compassionate Life," wrote recently of "three steps to realize and take hold of the power you have as people of faith."

"... Particularly in today's political climate, faith-based voices carry considerable clout. In early February of this year, 86 evangelical Christian leaders signed a statement backing a major initiative to fight global warming. Major newspapers across the country gave that story front-page coverage. Two of my Earth Ministry colleagues recently spent two days in Washington State’s capital, Olympia, speaking with legislators during 'Priorities for a Healthy Washington Day,' and 'Lutheran Advocacy Days.' At the latter they handed lawmakers and their aides a piece highlighting legislative priorities while introducing themselves as 'Christians.' Doing so opened doors and granted them a hearing in offices that often dismiss environmentalists.

Yes, we are called to be environmentalists. Someday, the phrase 'Christian environmentalist' will be redundant. And if you have a hard time with the word environmentalist, I simply mean one who believes that we have a sacred responsibility to care for that which God has made, and Jesus has reconciled and restored."
