THE GOOD NEWS AND THE BAD NEWS
Mayflower's financial situation has been steadily improving. We remain unable to get everyone to sign a pledge card, but more are doing so, and contributions to the church are up, allowing us to finish 2007 in the black. The trustees are being extremely responsible in paying down the principle on the remaining debt on the Christian Education Wing, which now stand at around $80,000. When we have extra money, we "buy down" that debt instead of just sitting on the money. I support this enthusiastically. ::: more

Martha Circle

March 2008

In spite of the blustery weather conditions, it was a big turnout at the February Martha Circle, hosted by Audrey Dragg and Merry Knowles. Apparently no one wanted to miss the tradition of a cozy dinner atmosphere that Audrey and Merry provide each year. ::: more

363 Group Update

Thanks - Thanks to all of the many supporters of the 363 Group. We have so many individuals from the congregation that provide support - some of that support is financial, some is food related, and some is the much needed clothing donations of sweatshirts, hats, gloves. All of this support is so appreciated by the group. And then there are the many faithful volunteers in this group. ::: more

The Connection between Racism and Socio-economic Inequalities in America

This month, the JustFaith group has studied the relationship between racism in America--past and present--and poverty in minority communities. As an introduction to this subject, we read Jonathan Kozol's heartrending book, Amazing Grace, about poverty in the South Bronx. ::: more

The Deacon's Report

February 19, 2008

Dear Mayflower Church:

Since you last heard from your dedicated deacons, we gathered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 16th, at Mayflower for our annual retreat. This retreat was not of the ordinary, relaxing variety, but rather, a roll-up-your-sleeves working retreat to organize and strategize for the coming year.

As a result of this comprehensive brain-storming session the deacons discovered many revolutionary and novel approaches to address ongoing issues, and, moreover, to take Mayflower in some very exciting, new directions. ::: more

The Call to Transform Our Hearts and the World

The Oklahoma Conference of Churches invites you to a Saturday workshop introducing JustFaith, a program that empowers people of faith to develop a passion and thirst for God's justice.

Our faith invites us to some remarkable possibilities in the name of love and compassion. The vision of the Gospels and Church social teaching speaks to life-giving choices on behalf of a world that struggles to survive. ::: more
