Plymouth Guild

Hospice is scheduled to be the topic at the March 11 meeting of Plymouth Guild, with Julie Williams as the presenter.

The Guild is another service wing of Mayflower Church and is open to all members and participating friends of the church. Meetings are on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in Milligan Hall.

Alice Paul (a.k.a. Erma Stewart) appeared before the group at its February meeting to tell of her struggles, frustrations, and hardships as a leader of the suffragists in the early 20th century. Alice Paul was the organizer of the women who brought about passage of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution in June 1919 after much suffering, including forced feeding in jail to break their hunger strike. It was another fourteen and a half months before the required 38 states had ratified the amendment acknowledging women's right to vote.

Vicki Wilcox announced preliminary planning for the Guild's Spring Luncheon, which will be Thursday, April 10. She has committee members overseeing the various segments, but needs volunteers to help with set-up beforehand and clean- up afterwards.

A new Guild project is collecting children's books for the "Tales of the Rising Moon" program at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center. Inmate mothers and grandmothers can select children's books and audio tape readings from them. The children are then able to hear their mother's voice reading as they read the books themselves. Look for the large basket in Milligan Hall labeled "Tales of the Rising Moon."

Check the Guild bulletin board in Milligan Hall for information about an upcoming Church Women United conference which will be in our area.

All are welcome to join the Third Tuesday Lunch Bunch. Meet at the church at 11 o'clock for the carpool. Contact Audrey Dragg for the designated restaurant each month.

Mayflower Bridge is for all men and women who like to play bridge. Bring a sack lunch and $2 to the Seeker's Room on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10:00 to 2:00.
