Christian Ed

For the next several months Voices and the Sunday morning bulletin will feature information about adult study groups offered at Mayflower. The following descriptions highlight two of the seven ongoing options for education, community and growth:

What began as an adult Christian Ed opportunity scheduled at a time when choir members could attend has, thankfully, developed into a more heterogeneous group of folks. In fact, more than half of these passengers on the good ship Mayflower are not members of the choir, and none are shy about sharing their reactions to the writings we are studying. Members of the WEBBS Group have been using books by Elaine Pagels, Bart Ehrman and Bishop Spong to study New Testament scripture from the viewpoint of: (1) who wrote it and for whom; (2) what changes have crept in as the early copyists did their work; and (3) what our 21st century view of the cosmos plus the discovery of writings not included in our Bible may do to our understanding of those scriptures. In doing so, we are realizing how important it is to ask God to "grant us wisdom and courage for interpretation."
