caring, collaborating, creating
opportunities abound in mayflower's education department

"Help me! Help me! New Christian education director needs some assistance."

Those words might be the headline describing the current status of my first month at Mayflower. I am succumbing to the gravitational pull exerted as I climb the learning curve for my new position. In this new journey as the Christian & Adult Education Director, I place extreme value on the opportunity to serve the members and friends of Mayflower.

My personal theme for this inaugural year is “Caring, Collaborating, Creating.”  This unique triad pinpoints my personal expectations for the ministry efforts in 2007. More on what this means below:

  • CARING -- a fondness, taste or preference for a valuable relationship or endeavor
  • COLLABORATING -- an effort of working jointly or willingly assisting
  • CREATING -- a production through effort and imagination

I ask for your help in making the education ministry as meaningful and purposeful as possible. Time is a premium for all of us and I recognize the importance of both receiving and giving in the spiritual life of the church. I hope to lead the church school in providing experiences that are relevant in knowing and following Christ. My request is for members to consider how they might collaborate in making this ministry successful.

SUNDAY SCHOOL NEEDS: We need two people to take a rotation as a teacher every three months in two children’s classes on Sunday mornings. We have openings in the kindergarten and first grade class, and in the 3’s, 4’s, and pre-kindergarten class. These positions teach one month each quarter and are rewarded through working with an enjoyable and interesting group of children.

LOOKING AHEAD: Confirmation classes for 11th and 12th grade youth are slated for Wed., April 18, 25, and May 2 and 9, from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Taught by Robin, this class could be called Christianity 101, as it will cover the history of the Christian faith and church, along with practical answers to real life faith questions. Enjoy a time of teaching and dialogue with Robin. Classes will meet in the Youth Room in the education wing.
