THE BOY WITH THE NEW HEART

Mayflower has suffered through some agonizing losses of late, and we have been searching for good news to celebrate. That news has come in the form of a young man named Chandler West, the grandson of Mayflower members Kay and Bill Culver. After learning that he had a degenerative heart disease, and would only survive with a full heart transplant, Chandler and his family began the ultimate waiting game. Then, suddenly as a heart became available (undoubtedly because another life was suddenly and tragically lost), Chandler was rushed into what is perhaps the most unlikely and miraculous surgery of all. ::: more

363 News

Thank You -- Thank you to the congregation from the members of the 363 Group for the support (financial and other) we receive all year long. This support allows us to accomplish our mission of showing love to the poor and homeless of our community by routinely providing a meal, clothing, toiletries and other items as needed. Also, thanks for providing sweatshirts, hats and gloves for our clients' Christmas gift bags. As always, you were very generous and provided us with many items we were able to give to those less fortunate at our meal on December 15th. ::: more

Plymouth Guild

Plymouth Guild members are looking forward to getting started on the New Year! November and December did not present us with a lot to write about. Our November program was to be from the Office of Juvenile Affairs but the speaker was unable to make her speaking appearance.

We heard reports from our Treasurer and Bazaar Chairman, and were happy to learn that our Fall Bazaar cleared $8,699.40. We appreciate all the support that Mayflower members gave us in attending and bringing us wonderful items to sell -- and all the hard work of Chairman Billie Fritch and those who helped her.

A special meeting of the Benevolence Committee was held to approve the disbursement of some funds for the Red Rice Christmas Dinner. We moved to decide on the rest of our benevolence giving after the first of the year. ::: more

January 2008

We ended the year with a delightful Christmas party hosted by Beth Filson and Myrna Gowman. While the food is always a highlight of each meeting, the real fun began with the Dirty Santa Gift Exchange. With the $1 limit for purchases, it was amazing to see what practical or pretty items were opened. Although the gifts didn't cost very much, a few were considered quite valuable and ownership was "transferred" several times, causing protests in fun and much laughter. This Dirty Santa Gift Exchange is the warm up for our next month's meeting -- a White Elephant Exchange that is sure to have some fun surprises. ::: more

JustFaith at Mayflower: Stepping Out of the Bubble

Author: Valerie Kit Love

In daily life, it is mediocrity and comfort that rob us from our relationship to authentic and empathetic living. Through JustFaith I have agreed to study and look consciously and compassionately at lives and environments outside my luxurious bubble of living. As my heart is opening and aching, I wish to share some insights into the 30 week program. ::: more
