January 18, 2008

Dear Mayflower Church:

The Board of Deacons is off to a rousing start for 2008. The Board would like to officially welcome and congratulate our new executive leadership for the current term: Chair of the Board of Deacons, Glenda Stansbury and Vice-Chair, Barbara Williams.

Additionally, the Board welcomes our new, incoming deacons for the 2009 term: Greg Seal, Madeline Bentley, Charles Brittain, Brian Brus, Pam Cross, Bohn Engell, Melodie Garneau, Paul Harris and Lynn Raines. We are grateful for your service and look forward to working with you all!

Following is a summary of some of the issues the Board is currently addressing:

  • The Board has finalized the alcohol policy for approving Building Use Requests for Milligan Hall and will make the appropriate changes in the Building Use Request form posted on the Mayflower Web site.
  • A request was submitted to the Board, by Chris Moore, requesting that the Board recommend him to the UCC, Oklahoma Association - Committee on Ministry, for consideration of becoming licensed for ministry in the UCC. The Board approved the request unanimously and will forward a letter of recommendation to the Committee on Ministry.
  • Various deacons were named to head up specific subcommittees on the Board: Ushers - Barbara Williams; Church Picnic - Pam Cross; and Justice and Witness Ministry - Sean Emerson.
  • The Board will hold a retreat for planning and strategy for the 2008 calendar year, Saturday, February 16th, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • The Board considered building use requests from the Central Oklahoma Human Rights Alliance, Teen emPower and Deb Hardaway.

As always, thanks for your prayers and continued support. God bless!

Sincerely

Mayflower Board of Deacons
