kansas-oklahoma conference kicks off lay ministry education program
Janet Storts, director of the UCC Kansas-Oklahoma Conference’s Lay Ministry Education program, announced the national church is working with the conferences to develop multiple-paths-to-ministry programs, which led to exciting changes in the Kansas-Oklahoma Conference program.
The program will be expanded and divided into two parts. The first four years will be open to any interested person and each class may be taken independently. The last three years will be limited to those who have taken all of the classes in the first four years and have been taken “in-care” by their Association’s Committee on Ministry.
In this new program, the first year will focus on Spiritual Formation - the foundations for living a Christian life.
Class 1 Spiritual Family Trees, led by Janet Storts, February 16 and 17 at the
Parish House in Wichita
Class 2 UCC Polity, History and Theology, led by David Hansen and John
Tamilio, March 9 and 10, Colonial Church in Prairie Village.
Class 3 Spiritual Formation, Practices, Discipline, led by Kevin Olsen, Kent
Cormack and Lew Hinshaw, September 7 & 8, White Memorial
Camp.
Class 4 Christian Ethics, details to be developed.
It is extremely important any person who might be interested in these classes as a path toward licensed ministry attend the first class.
