MY summer service learning trips
What is service learning? In a service learning experience participants learn and develop through active participation in service conducted to meet the needs of a community. Service learning is integrated into and influences the lifelong learning of a participant and includes structured time for participants to reflect on the service experience. MY's service learning trips are coordinated with other Mayflower programs, like Mayflower's Medical Outreach in Nicaragua or with other non-profit organizations like Heifer International. The number of trips scheduled and destinations vary from year to year.
MY service learning trips require a high degree of commitment and responsibility on the part of the individual and a willingness to set aside individual needs for the group as a whole. An agressive level of fundraising is involved as well and all youth going on the trip are required to participate in fundraisers. We also rely heavily on parental help with fundrasiers.
In 2007 we'll return to Heifer Ranch. MY hopes to return to Nicaragua in the summer of 2008.
Below you'll find summaries of the 2006 trips which give you an idea of what each trip is about, costs, etc. Explore the links in the text, the links to the right, or click on the email links below to send an email.
